Tips and Techniques for Writing LitRPG
Welcome back to the second episode of our LitRPG blog series. Here, we'll work through the process of writing LitRPG, from developing engrossing game mechanics to creating memorable characters. So, saddle up, and let's get started!
As with any book, it's necessary to know enough about the genre before you write, so read novels by authors in this genre. LitRPG is a fast-paced genre, so I'd recommend reading fresh releases rather than classics. What you're searching for here are the gaming mechanics that make up the plot. This includes elements like stats, levels, and missions. Examine how the game mechanics affect the plot and characters. For instance, how does leveling up affect the protagonist's powers and interactions with other characters in the story? Then you must consider the game mechanics in your own plot and how they will affect your character. Overloading the story with gaming mechanics is a typical error. To avoid this, ensure that the game mechanics are balanced with the plot and characters. Don't be scared to take chances or think outside the box.
Then there's world-building, which in this case is a virtual world that serves as the story's foundation. You should spend the time necessary to create a complex and immersive setting for your LitRPG story. This can be difficult since you may be tempted to start the book with a large piece of information about your world, which is typically a mistake. Sprinkle tidbits of information throughout your novel to fully immerse your readers in the world.
Character development is essential in any novel, and LitRPG is no different. While creating your characters, consider how their personalities and backgrounds will affect their relationships with other characters and the virtual environment. Consider giving each character their own biography and reasons to drive their actions in the plot.
Finally, when you first start off ask yourself, "Who is telling the story?" A seamless audience entry depends on the narrative. Choose the right narrative voice for the book based on the plot. Regardless of the voice you use, be consistent with it and mindful of the difficulties in maintaining the immersive experience.
Writing a LitRPG may be both tough and enjoyable. However, we hope you found this advice useful and wish you success with your writing adventure!
