How to Write an Executive-Level Resume

Are you ready for a promotion to the management or executive level? Well, you’ll need to create a standout resume and cover letter demonstrating more than your employment history.

Although you are applying for an executive-level position, you must keep your resume concise. Selecting the best projects to use as examples will enable you to reduce the length of your resume instead of trying to list every project you have worked on. Executive-level resumes do not need to mention schooling, although you will note any degrees you’ve completed.

Potential employers will be searching for executive-level candidates who can slide into the role quickly. They won’t want to provide training to high-level achievers who should already have excellent skills. Executives must be able to manage staff and multiple projects – and understand how the business works at each level. This includes production, marketing, customer service, and budgeting. An executive-level position requires the ability to manage projects from conception to completion.

Your resume must demonstrate how you have gained experience in all these areas. Selecting suitable projects to demonstrate your expertise will provide a better overview of your abilities. Just listing job titles won’t do here! Usually, an executive-level summary will discuss previous projects you have completed and explain how and why you are ready for an executive-level position.

When ready for an executive-level position, you will have been in the workforce for many years. You may have worked at several jobs or for quite a few other companies. You must mention only some projects you have worked on in your resume. Choosing projects that exemplify your work and achieve a tremendous result, or demonstrate how you solved a complex problem, is best.

Provide different examples of projects that you consider to be your best work, projects that were challenging and projects that show your skills, including team leadership, planning, budgeting, and execution. Your achievements throughout your career will highlight your skills and vast experience.
